Surf Haven is our newly renovated beach home at Garden City Beach, on the South Carolina coast just outside Murrells Inlet. It’s made for groups: four bedrooms, three bathrooms and room for up to 12, with the beach right there and the rest of the Grand Strand on your doorstep. Here’s a look inside.
Bedrooms with a view
There’s one bedroom on the main floor and three upstairs. The primary suite has a king bed, its own bathroom and a balcony with ocean views. Two more upstairs bedrooms each have two queen beds and share a Jack and Jill bathroom, which works well for kids or for two couples. Every bedroom has a Roku TV, and all three bathrooms have been recently renovated.
A kitchen for a crowd
The remodeled kitchen has granite countertops, modern appliances and an island with seating for four. The wood dining table seats eight, with more room at the counter, so everyone can eat together. The relaxed, boho beach style carries through to the lounge, where two big sofas and three accent chairs face a smart TV. There are board games for rainy afternoons and Wi-Fi for anyone who has to check in with work.
Outside
Step out from the lounge onto the private patio, fire up the grill and eat at one of the two picnic tables while the kids play on the grass. From there it’s a short walk onto the sand. Upstairs, the east-facing balcony catches the sunrise over the Atlantic.
Guests also have access to a community pool that’s heated from April 1 to October 31, so you can swim in spring and fall while the ocean is still cool.
Beach gear already in the cupboard
Leave the bulky stuff at home. Surf Haven has beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, beach toys and a beach cart to haul it all down to the water. For families with little ones there’s a high chair, a Pack ‘n Play and toddler plates, bowls and utensils. Linens and towels are provided, and there’s a washer and dryer for sandy swimsuits.
